Sheva
- Sounds Of Peace, by Yvette Moore - 11th January
2003

The message is peace and the music speaks for itself.
No
preaching necessary.
The
only challenge was staying seated. As the percussion
drums and exotic ryhums rose - so did the audience,
and with that, the 7-piece ensemble allowed their
smiles to broaden.
Clearly
lovin' what they do. Sheva is evocative, sacred, exotic,
erotic, mesmerizing and soul stirring.
Sheva's
origins are in Israel. They play, they sing like angels.
The
music is unmistakably Middle Eastern with rhythmic,
sometimes minor key heartfelt, but always beautiful.
The instruments vary from Indian, African, Asian and
Middle Eastern in origin. They include zithers, percussion,
guitar and some other mysterious objects. One thing's
for sure, the sound that emanated was able to reach
everyone's heart. Peaceniks, poets, piss heads and
bare foot mamas all danced, swayed, tapped or simply
bathed in the ecstatic chants and rhythms.
Much
of the world has been dazzled by the charisma and
vibe of Sheva; now it's Australia's turn.
Some
smile, some pulsate. Some simply do their thing. All
7 contribute to a spectacular event. The highlight
of 2004. No wonder the Dalai Lama loved it. Lyrics
of peace. Shalom. Shalom.
