Green Biography
The Green Machine is the likeable larrikin that grew
up in The West's beach side suburb of Doubleview.
With Mum Maria, Dad Mal, brother Brendan and sister's
Sharni and Narelle life was never dull. Sport has
always played a huge part in the family's life with
Brendan being an Australian Rules Football premiership
player for Claremont and being selected in the West
Coast Eagles playing squad.
Danny's
father Mal coached his junior team Marist to 3 premierships
with Danny being described kindly "as a diminutive
rover with heaps of courage". Players of the
ilk of Molly, Jimmy, Trants, Davo, Jezza, Heads and
Benny ensured there was never a dull moment for Mal.
During
this time Danny was actively involved in kick boxing
and martial arts. He then took up boxing at the late
age of 18 when attending a pre season training session
with his brother with Pat Develerz who then went on
to train him during his amateur career. Danny won
numerous state titles before moving to the AIS to
train for the Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
His
adventures then took him to Canada with partner (now
wife) Nina. After the 2000 Olympics he was approached
by triple world champion Jeff Fenech to turn professional.
That he did, and what an impact he has had since!
As
they say, the rest is history! He quickly advanced
through the ranks and within 3 years fought for and
controversially lost, then won the WBC Super Middleweight
World Title. The Team Fenech knockout artist is the
new WBC Interim super middleweight world champion
after an impressive stoppage win in Montreal, Canada
on December 20. This fight came after a controversial
disqualification loss to WBC super middleweight champion
Markus Beyer in Germany in August 2003. A Green-Beyer
rematch is now scheduled for March 12 in Zwickau Germany.
