Gypsy
Wood's Pin Up Exhibition
True
to her name, Gypsy has travelled the world dancing
with frills, fans and feathers.
Sometimes
wearing just the cover of a blue spotlight! Gypsy's
mother Jeanette Luke performed as a child in Vaudeville
and in the 60's, worked as a soubrette to showgirls
such as Sandra Nelson.
Dancing
in the most famous clubs in Sydney such as the
Paradise, the Checkers Club and the Motor Club,
Jeanette named her first daughter after that great
icon of the tease – Gypsy Rose Lee.
Experiencing
a bohemian childhood in the surroundings of her
mother's vintage clothing shop, Gypsy grew up
with a romantic love for classic couture and costumes.
In
a wonderful world of 50's frocks, cloche hats
and fabulous, feminine attire, her vintage style
is the inspiration of her performance.
She
combines this with a quirky sense of humor and
sultry seduction. She studied classical and contemporary
dance at the Victorian College of The Arts graduating
in 2000 with a Bachelor of Dance, going on to
perform with companies and festivals in London,
Paris, Tokyo, and New York.
An
International showgirl of the world, Gypsy's favorite
city is Paris where she fell in love with her
famous French lover, Krug Champagne.
Gypsy
combines her passion for dance and glamorous vintage
striptease, Old Hollywood and 50's Cheese in her
own stylish burlesque acts.
More
than anything, she loves being in front of an
enthusiastic audience, thrilled with the excitement
of the unexpected.
This
pin-up girl gives a cheeky wink to the strip,
and blows a kiss to her obsessions, vintage style
and exotic dance.

"
I wanted to create a set of playing cards that
were inspired by vintage postcards and the erotic
pin ups from the 40's and 50's. In this age of
internet porn and babe magazines, I wanted to
do something daring yet innocent, a positive message
of being naked in the world through my playing
cards."
Also
showing in the exhibition will be photos by Louise
Whelan, and paintings by Antoinette Starkiewicz,
The decks of playing cards will be on sale to
the public following the exhibition at the Arthouse
Hotel, 275 Pitt Street, Sydney.
From
Sydney Harbour to New York City each card features
Gypsy Wood posing against a captivating backdrop
celebrating her twin obsessions of vintage style
and exotic dance.
