Peter Meares

Peter
Meares has been one of Queensland's leading sports
commentators for the past 35 years.
Best
known for his hosting of the immensely popular Brisbane
Commonwealth Games in 1982 with the ABC, Peter has
been a familiar face on television throughout Australia.
In
his days at the ABC, Peter was a member of the Test
cricket commentary team, called Rugby League and Union
and hosted the popular Saturday night "Sports
Review" for 17 years.
Switching
to the commercial world with Channel 7, Peter hosted
"Sportscene" on Sundays, and presented the
sport on 7 Nightly News for 12 years.
He
covered the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and two more
Commonwealth Games, as well as calling network Basketball
and Tennis.
He's
won many media awards, and was made an Advance Australia
Ambassador for services to sport in 1983. He's called
almost every popular sport, and a few exotic ones,
like Korfball and Sepak Takraw, as well!
A
popular Master of Ceremonies, Peter has many tales
to tell of life in front of the cameras, and behind
the scenes in the grandstand or dressing-room.
Now
freelance, Peter is calling sport on Pay Television
around the world, running a sports production company,
Mearesport, and is in demand on the speaking circuit.
He hosts his own TV programme "Superstars and
Legends" on Fox Sports and has written two books:
"Legends of Australian Sport - The Inside Story"
(UQP 2003) and "Wallaby Legends" (Lothian
Books, 2005). He keeps fit playing golf and tennis
and loves talking sport.
